Ken's Discount Building Materials is owned by Ken and Dolores Blackmon. They have a lumberyard and a furniture store in El Dorado, Arkansas, and a lumberyard in Magnolia, Arkansas. Ken's Discount is a member of three buying groups: Allied Building Stores, True Value, and Handy Hardware.

In March of 1972 Ken opened the El Dorado location in an old hamburger stand with three stacks of plywood on consignment. The Magnolia store opened in 1982 in a 12'X16' building with three shop bays. In 1984, they bought out Howard Building Center across town and they purchased their current location in 1990. This location is a 52,000 square foot building that includes a 20,000 square foot show room. In September of 1996, Ken and Dolores added a separate furniture store to their list of assets, in El Dorado. The furniture store has a 9,000 square foot showroom with a 9,000 square foot warehouse showroom.

Ken's installed their first computer system in 1989. However it did not meet all their expectations as a point-of-sale system. In January of 1993, after shopping around, Ken and Dolores installed the Advantage System in their two lumberyards. They updated their computers from the basic version of Advantage to the database version in February of 1997. Ken's Discount Building Materials has grown with the Advantage programs throughout the last few years and anticipate a continuing good working relationship. With software and technical support, Ken and Dolores are able to maintain their high standards for customer service.
